Belemu: Copper Queens Focused on Group A Success at WAFCON

Copper Queens defender Margaret Belemu says the team will not underestimate any opponent at the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Belemu says the team is focused on securing a top finish in Group A to advance to the knockout stage.
The Red Arrows Women’s Club player acknowledged the strength of fellow Group A opponents—Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo—noting that both sides have solid squads with fast and skillful players.
Set to feature in her third WAFCON, the experienced defender says her personal goal is to be a dependable team player and ensure the goal remains well protected throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Copper Queens striker Racheal Kundananji expressed excitement about returning to WAFCON, marking her second appearance since 2018.
Kundananji who scored during her debut WAFCON tournament, says she is motivated to help the team achieve its targets this year.
She made the remarks during the unveiling of the new CAF WAFCON trophy in Morocco.
Malawi Women’s National Team Captain, Tabitha Chawinga, who was invited by CAF as a special guest at this year’s WAFCON, expressed confidence that a team from the Southern African region will win the tournament.
Chawinga said either defending champions South Africa or Zambia have what it takes to emerge victorious, provided they advance beyond the group stage.
