Chipolopolo Boys goalkeeper coach Kennedy Mweene says he is happy with what he has seen from the goalkeepers he worked with during the November FIFA International window. Mweene however believes there is still a lot that can be done going forward and feels it will get even better as he continues to work with the goalkeepers. Mweene says he is encouraged by what he saw with the goalkeepers he had in camp, Toaster Nsabata, Mangani Banda, Charles Kalumba and Francis Mwansa. “Look, I think the first time they contacted me, I didn’t even hesitate, you know, because, you know, I really wanted to contribute one way or the other to the national team, especially when it comes to goalkeeping. And for me, I think my first impression when we got to Camp even though I did not have enough time. I think I had two training sessions with the boys,” he said. “And I think from what I’ve seen, I’m okay. Yeah, I’m okay with it, with what I’ve seen. But we can do more. I think as days go by and as we meet again in camp, I think there’s a lot of aspects we need to work on as goalkeepers. So for me, I think it looks encouraging. And I’m happy with what I’ve seen with the keepers I was with here,” he added. Mweene was recently appointed as the Chipolopolo Boys goalkeeper coach as part of the Moses Sichone led technical bench to carry on post the Avram Grant era. Mweene was Chipolopolo Boys first choice goalkeeper between 2004 and 2018 and made over 90 appearances and was also the man between the sticks when Zambia won its first and only Africa Cup of Nations crown.

Chipolopolo Boys striker Patson Daka scored the second goal as Leicester City beat Stoke City 2-1 in the English Championship. Daka’s goal was his first goal of the year ending his eleven month goal drought. Daka last scored in December 2024 in the Foxes 3-1 win over West Ham. Leicester City made it back-to-back wins in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday with a gutsy 2-1 success over Stoke City at King Power Stadium. Stephy Mavididi and Patson Daka – each netting first goals of 25/26 – broke through the second tier’s tightest defence in the first half to put Leicester City on course for victory. Although Bae Jun-Ho halved the arrears for Mark Robins’ high-flying visitors, the Foxes showed real resolve to see out the win in pouring rain on Filbert Way. The win takes Leicester City to 24 points after 16 games.
Nkwazi recorded their first win of the season just before the international break and will be looking to build on that on Friday afternoon when they visit Reiz Arena to take on NAPSA Stars in a week 12 MTN Super League encounter. The hosts have not been convincing this season winning only two games, drawing five and losing four. The Pensioners are coming off a shock 2-0 loss away at FC Leopards. Off the field, Nkwazi are facing some serious issues with their head coach Masauso Tembo linked with a move to Kansanshi Dynamos, whether it will materialize or not now that Mohamed Fathi is now in the picture, is anyone’s guess. However assistant coach Keegan Phiri says the boys are confident of picking maximum points against inconsistent NAPSA Stars. “No, we’ve prepared very well. Of course, we are coming from picking the first three points. We want to build upon that and the boys are very confident that we are going to get the three points. No, not really. We won, but we know our position is not where we really want it to be. So, we are working very hard. The break, we used it obviously to sharpen a few areas. Even the game that we won against Mines United, I don’t think we played at our maximum. We want to improve. We know we haven’t started well, but for us as a team, we always know that the sky is the limit,” Phiri said. “Yeah, we know, of course, NAPSA is a very good team, a ball-playing team. We know that it won’t be easy. We have to put in our best, knowing that we’re going to win. We just have to do the right things. I think this game will be decided on very fine margins,” he added. Meanwhile Lameck Manda who scored in the win over Mines United believes the Zambia Police sponsored outfit is 100 percent ready for NAPSA Stars. “Coming from a win, we are 100% ready for the game against NAPSA. The morale in the team is very high. Everyone is ready. The coaches have done their part. We are good. Coming from a win and coming from a game that I scored, I think for me as a player and as a striker, it gives me the best courage and the best motive to score a game against NAPSA. The morale in camp is very high,” he said. “ I think the senior players that we have are encouraging us to work hard. and the young ones are ready to compete and play for the team. For me this season as a striker is to finish top scorer for the team and for the league. I want to help my team to finish in the top five.”
