FAZ GS to lead in conducting business at the AGM – NSCZ guides

The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) has guided that FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga will lead in conducting the business at FAZ AGM.
The Football Association of Zambia is set to hold its elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 9 May 2025 in Kabwe after its initial one was halted by a court injunction.
According to a statement by National Sports Council of Zambia made available to the ZamFoot Crew, NSCZ has reiterated the need for FAZ to adhere to the advice from the Attorney General regarding the tenure of the former Executive Committee and the President which expired on 28 February 2025 in accordance with Article 33 (3) and (4) of the Football Association of Zambia Constitution.
NCSZ has also dispelled assertions that the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts decided not to allow Andrew Kamanga to chair the AGM nor present the financial statements for him not to expose the government for funds owed to the Association, stating that the government continues to support FAZ in various ways.
NSCZ revealed that earlier this year the Government assisted the Association with K10 million to offset some of its debts.
They went on to admit that the Government owes players ‘some payments’ but was working to offset the outstanding amounts.
The Sports Council has also guided that the election should be the only item at the AGM and that the financial statements be deferred to another date beyond the AGM.
BELOW IS THE FULL STATEMENT; SUBJECT: THE 2025 FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA ELECTIVE
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will hold its elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 9 May 2025 in Kabwe, weeks after the initial AGM planned for 29 March 2025 was cancelled due to an injunction. The injunction has since been vacated through efforts made by the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ).
In preparation for the reconvened AGM, NSCZ has been working closely with FAZ and in touch with FIFA through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts.
Prior to the aborted AGM in Livingstone, NSCZ provided guidelines to FAZ on the need to adhere to the advice from the Attorney General regarding the tenure of the former Executive Committee and the President which expired on 28 February 2025 in accordance with Article 33 (3) and (4) of the Football Association of Zambia Constitution. Therefore, in the absence of an Executive Committee, the General Secretary will lead in conducting the business of the AGM.
We wish to also dispel assertions made on some media platforms that the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts decided not to allow the former FAZ president to chair the AGM nor present the financial statements for him not to expose the government for funds owed to the Association. On the contrary, FAZ still owes the Ministry through unpaid user fees to the National Heroes Stadium and Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. You may wish to note that the government continues to support FAZ in various ways as was witnessed early this year when it assisted the Association with K10millon to offset some of its debts. Out of this amount, K7million went towards payments of debts to NAPSA and ZRA while K3million was paid to the two stadiums. Government also continues to pay the two national team coaches. While there have been some delays in fulfilling this obligation on some occasions, it should be known that most of the shortfalls are caused by FAZ that has not submitted a contract for the Women’s National Team coach. However, we wish to admit that some payments have not been made to national team players, a situation that the Ministry is working on to offset outstanding amounts. This status does not, in any way, affect the financial statements of FAZ which ordinarily should be presented at the AGM.
With the foresaid, we wish to guide that the upcoming FAZ AGM should only have the election of new Executive Committee members as an Agenda item. We further wish to guide that the financial statements be deferred to another date beyond the AGM.
As we head towards the AGM, we wish to appeal to Councilors and the members of public not to disrupt the AGM which may have dire consequences on the development of football in the country. It is critical for those who feel aggrieved to seek redress with the National Sports Council of Zambia and not to rush in addressing their concerns through other means. As a regulator of all National Sports Associations in Zambia, we will ensure relevant measures are meted on those that bring the sport of football into disrepute in line with the Sports Council of Zambia Act Chapter 142 of the Laws of Zambia.
As we go beyond the AGM, we look forward to working with the new Executive Committee in the development of football in the Country.
ISSUED ON 5 MAY 2025 BY THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
NATIONAL SPORTS COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA

Painful loss to Power Dynamos frustrates Siwale

ZESCO United interim gaffer Emmanuel Siwale was left frustrated after a ‘painful’ loss to Power Dynamos on Wednesday afternoon at Arthur Davies Stadium in a rescheduled week 5 MTN Super League encounter.
Moses Shumah scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute to hand ZESCO United their third straight loss in the Super League.
Siwale after the match said the loss was painful and it was frustrating that his side failed to hit the back of the net even once throughout the 90 minutes.
Zega Mambo last won a game in the league on 5th October, 5-0 over struggling Mines United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“It’s very frustrating, especially where we didn’t put at least one in the net, but this is a painful loss,” he said.
“It’s only that we haven’t gotten a win ever since we qualified to the Group stage. Sometimes this is what you expect because the boys put in all in the calf, forgetting that this is what made us to play the calf. So, as soon as they realise this, then I’m sure we’ll be good to go.”
Siwale however picked positives from a very improved performance in the second half.
“Yeah, especially the second half because we saw what Power Dynamos were doing and we now had to make changes, I’m sure you saw, and this is where we had to, even if we had the chance, I don’t know if I would say luck or what, maybe this is where we would have gotten at least a goal because of the pressure that we put on our colleagues. But the second half was exciting, especially that we are both in the CAF ( Champions League and Confederation Cup) to see where we are, but it’s bad for us because we did not win the game, we lost,” he said.
“It’s what I’m sure they’ve realised. Even when they saw the fixture, you could see the second half where everyone wanted to win or to get a positive result. That is the character that we want, the second half. I’m sure going forward, if we can pick it up from the second half, I’m sure we’ll start posting a positive result.
“No that went because of how the game went. That’s how you sometimes strategize because you have to see what your opponent are doing and then you work on their weakness. So we saw what they were doing and we had to change. We didn’t want to do it there and then. We were waiting for the second half and that’s how you saw us do what we did.”
“It says in terms of what your colleague has just asked me because we saw what they were doing and then we capitalized on that and you could see our colleagues now also trying to counter what we did. But we had already gotten the momentum. What was remaining was a goal. But credit to them because they won the game,” he added.
The Zega Mambo gaffer is worried because his side wants to defend the ABSA Cup but at they are outside the qualification bracket.
“Yeah, it is. It is worrying because that is not where we belong. We have to defend the ABSA, but if we can’t win, how are we going to defend it? Because at the moment, that is one of our targets, the ABSA Cup, because we want it. And if we cannot pull away from the bottom there, it’s not going to be good for the team like ZESCO United.”
“What I would say, yes, that’s a very good question because ZESCO is, I would say, a work in progress. You have seen the young ones and I’m happy that we have been put in that draw, especially for CAF. Because this is where we belong and even the boys, they must make sure they experience that. And I’m sure if we can continue playing in CAF, I’m seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Because these boys, once they get the experience, they mature, then Zesko will move to another level.”
ZESCO United have now lost their last three matches in the MTN Super League and sit 12th on the log table with 10 points from eight games.

Power Dynamos take on Zesco United this afternoon at Arthur Davies Stadium in a rescheduled Week 6 encounter, a match that promises to be a mouth-watering encounter.
Power heads into this match with confidence, coming off two straight victories, while Zesco United are coming from back to back losses and will be desperate to bounce back. Zesco United currently sit 12th on 10 points, while Power Dynamos are 10th on 14 points and both sides still have three games in hand.
Head coach Oswald Mutapa acknowledges the challenge ahead and admits there is no more easy games.
“Another tough game coming on Wednesday. There are no easy games anymore.  We are just from playing Nkwazi. It was a tough game  but for me it’s the mentality we are taking into this one,” he said.
Mutapa emphasised the importance of staying alert despite their run of form.
“We are coming from two wins, Zesco is coming from two consecutive losses, and that’s where we need to be wary of. We need to fight, show character and personality because we need the three points.”
On the other side, Zesco United interim coach Siwale believes this fixture will bring both quality and tactical discipline and are eager to break the negative streak.
“It will be an interesting and tactical battle, where everyone will try to put up something, it will be like playing chess.”
“We want to reverse the situation which we have found ourselves in, in the past two games and we want to end the trend.”
Mutapa also pointed out that the ABSA Cup remains a key target for Power Dynamos.
“We need to play ABSA and that can only happen depending on the points we accumulate by the end of the first round. So it’s important we get the results, especially at home, riding on the two wins we have recorded.”
With domestic league duties, continental  commitments and ABSA ambitions all on the agenda, Mutapa says the players understand the task ahead.
“Dominance is key for us to go very far, but it will require a lot of hard work, character and personality.”
“It’s important that we start recording wins slowly but surely. These games in hand need to be taken with the seriousness they deserve,”  he added.
Kick off at Arthur Davies Stadium at 15h00 with tickets for open wing going at K30 and VIP at K300.
