Belinda Mulenga eyes re-election as Lusaka Province Women’s Rep

Belinda Mulenga will be seeking re-election as Lusaka Province Women’s Representative at the FAZ Lusaka Province elections.
Belinda is running on the theme; Empowering Women, breaking barriers and delivering results.
She sat down with the ZamFoot Crew to explain her plans and ideas ahead of the FAZ Lusaka Province elections.
The former Zambia U20 team manager wants to continue on the path of development that Lusaka Province has embarked on.
“The reason behind me putting my name in the hat again is to continue on the path we are on. We have started something that will bear a lot of fruit in the future and I would like to continue playing my small part,” she said.
“The plan is to continue working with Grassroots development of course anchored on Principles of transparency, integrity and Unity,” she added.
The former National Assembly WFC Secretary General believes the teams are the ones who deserve the credit for the development Lusaka has seen in the last four years.
“Look, our part is to provide a conducive environment for the teams. I must say the credit goes to them for the wonderful job they are doing,” she said.
“Lusaka has a competitive Women’s Provincial Division One and Women’s Provincial Division 2 league with a lot of young talent all thanks to our major stakeholders, the clubs who have made this possible through sacrifice and hard work,” she added.
Belinda is confident the corporate world will soon see the potential in women’s football and it will get the recognition it deserves.
“It’s not a secret, Funding and finances are the major constraint or hindrance when it comes to women’s football but we have been working closely with teams to push the idea of commercialization and self sustainability,” she said.
“Once we get the ball rolling, I am confident the corporate world will see the true potential of women’s football and fully come on board.”
“In the last five years, the Copper Queens have been to WAFCON (finishing 3rd), to the World Cup and to the Olympics twice. The players come from these provincial leagues and graduate to the top leagues then some move abroad but the basic point is that Provincial League play a crucial role in players development and that’s why it’s something that has to be taken seriously,” Belinda told the ZamFoot Crew.
Provincial elections will commence on March 15 while the FAZ elective AGM will be held on March 29.
