The highly anticipated match between Power Dynamos and Nkana popularly known as the Kopala derby will come alive today. The biggest game in the land will take place at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Due to overwhelming demand for tickets in the recent past, Power Dynamos will be playing a ‘home away from home’ game, as their usual home ground, Arthur Davies Stadium, cannot accommodate the massive number of fans eager to witness this clash of titans. The team’s fan base has experienced a remarkable surge in recent times, with even smaller games like Power Dynamos vs Mutondo Stars drawing massive crowds. As we reach week 15 of the season, this encounter promises to be an unforgettable spectacle. The decision to move the game to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium is a testament to the growing excitement and popularity of Zambian football. With high stakes, Power Dynamos currently sits top of the league table, while Nkana has seen significant improvement under Coach Mwenya Chipepo’s leadership. Coach Chipepo’s familiarity with Power Dynamos, having coached them in the past, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the match. Despite Power Dynamos sitting top of the league table and Nkana’s impressive performance under Coach Mwenya Chipepo’s leadership, this match is ultimately about pride. The city of Kitwe will be divided, with Nkana fans donning their signature red and Power Dynamos supporters in their vibrant yellow. Mwenya Chipepo says his side is eying a victory in the game. Chipepo led Abayellow to the 2022/2023 MTN Super League Championship. “I coached Power and now Nkana. They are all my teams but I belong to Nkana now. I want to win ,but the best performer will carry the day tomorrow, ” Chipepo said. “We can’t go to war and expect to die ,I am prepared and our players are.” “Both teams are demanding. Power Dynamos are playing good football and that is why they are top of the log table, you can’t be on top if you don’t have a good team and we respect them.” “The Kitwe derby is always a tough game ,it’s not going to be easy but we will fight,” he added. Meanwhile captain of the side Harrison Chisala says the team has set their sights on winning the match. “We have set a target as a team, that tomorrow it’s a must win game. The morale in camp Is very high,” Chisala told the ZamFoot Crew. Oswald Mutapa wants his side to show consistency and get desired results today especially that they are log leaders. “This game is as important as the last one,we need to show consistency. We are coming from two wins after having lost to Zesco. It’s important that we are league leaders and we are not there by chance, more reason we have to get the desired results,” Mutapa told the ZamFoot Crew. “When we lost the previous derby it was like we had lost the League and people were saying it’s better we don’t win the league but win the derby,we lost but this time around we are log leaders and it’s important that we continue with the consistency and also give our supporters something to smile about.” “I am actually happy that goals are coming from everywhere,if we rely on one person and they don’t score ,it means we won’t score, but it’s always a concern if stickers are not scoring but I have seen Austin Muwowo scoring ,Brian masaninga, and Eddie,” he added. Asked about the lesson learnt when it comes to the derby; I think it’s all about the time character and which players have shown that they want to play in the derby, last time we felt let’s use players that have already played the derby before but the outcome was different and we want to rectify that by bringing people that really want to play, and through trainings we are able to see they really want to play the derby.” Mutapa was quick to praise the fans for supporting the team and asked them to come to the stadium in numbers. “The fans have been excellent with us,they have given us moral support home and away. We ask them to come through and give us the support.Football has three results win ,lose and draw but we just want to win this and show why we are log leaders.” Nkana have won four of the last ten meetings with Power Dynamos while Abayellow have won six. The last eleven matches have ended in favor of either Power or Nkana with the last draw coming back in 2018. By Precious Bwale
